Hexagon Petal Envelope and Basket Ensemble

Hello friends!
Today, I have a new tutorial to share with you using the new "Hexagon Petal Envelope"  die template from Spellbinders. You can make an envelope to use as a birthday card or invitation to a shower and make the matching party favor basket to go with it.

This is the die template you will need to make the 4 projects, "Hexagon Petal Envelope"

Here is a close up picture of the envelope, which I will be showing you how to make first.

To make the envelope and flower, I used two-sided pattern card stock by Graphic 45, Once Upon a Springtime Collection. Die cut the pieces with the Grand Calibur by Spellbinders. Notice that the dies are cut side down on the paper with the cutting plate under.

To emboss, place the dies cut side up, with paper still in them, on the Base Plate, followed by the Embossing Mat and Embossing Plate, as the picture below shows.

Add some distress ink to the edges of the envelope and flower petals with Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Vintage Photo. Curl the flowers to give them dimension.

For the envelope, fold each petal down to the center in a clockwise motion, and tuck the last petal under. For the flower, layer the flower petals using foam dots between layers. Attach the flower to the center with a foam dot.

For the white envelope, follow the same instructions. I added the tiny flowers to each petal on the envelope. I used metallic card stock in pearl color.

For the white basket, follow the instructions above for the envelope. This will become the basket after attaching the flowers to each corner. You also need to die cut 2 of the large flowers, 26 of the medium size flowers and 13 of the tiny flowers. The process of die cutting them is fast because this set of dies comes with 4 dies of each of the smaller flowers. Embossing the flowers is optional, but you must emboss the envelope to get the folding marks.

Then, layer the flowers as shown below. You also need a strip of card stock measuring 11 inches by 1/2 inch for the handle. I used two different colors of metallic card stock for the flowers, pearl and gold.

Curl and layer the flower petals for the large center flower on the handle strip as pictured below.

Layer the flowers and attach them to handle strip with glue dots, leaving about 2 inches on each end, as picture below shows.

For the basket, fold 6 flowers in half and attach them to each corner using a strong tape or heavy duty glue to hold the basket secure.

Attach the top layer of flower to 6 sides with glue dots.

Glue or tape handle to basket. Attach self stick pearls to the center of each flower. Here is the final product.

For the patterned card stock basket, you need to cut 3 strips of pattern card stock measuring 12 inches by 1/2 inch, and 3 strips of solid color card stock measuring 12 inches by 5/8 inches for the handle background. I also lined the inside of the basket by die cutting another envelope, cutting the petals from the base and attaching them to the inside.

Hexagon Pinwheel Top Box

Hello friends! This cute little box is so easy to make, perfect for Halloween, Christmas, Easter, birthdays, party favors. All you have to do is change the pattern of the card stock for the appropriate occasion. You can also rubber stamp on plain card stock before folding the box.
A Ghirardelli Chocolate Square fits perfect in this box!
To make this box, you need two different patterns of card stock. I used the Romantique Collection from Prima Marketing, Gazette for the box, and Hedgerow for the triangles as you  can see in the picture bellow.

To create the box I used the "Grand Calibur" die cut machine by Spellbinders, which is ideal for die-cutting and embossing the folding lines of the box, and the "Hexagon Pinwheel Top Box" LF-008 die.

Die-cut and emboss the "Hexagon Pinwheel Top Box" die on pattern card stock, following the machine's instructions.

The embossing step here is very important because it creates the folding lines of the box.

To die-cut the triangles I prefer to put the pattern card stock on the Cutting plate first. Then lay the dies "cut side down" on the paper, this way you can see exactly where it is going to cut, and then put the Base plate on top. Roll through the machine this way to die-cut, and then emboss.

Glue the 6 triangle pieces to the box before folding. I like to add some distress ink to the edges with an applicator. I used Tim Holtz Distress Ink, Age Mahogany.

Fold each petal down to the center to crease folding lines and then open them up.
To form the box, tuck each petal under each other in sequence in a clockwise motion. This may take a little bit of practice but it will become very easy as you repeat the process.
Here is the finished box, enjoy!!
